Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius...

Today we woke up and had breakfast in the hotel then headed to Pompeii. Pompeii is a city that was covered by volcanic ash from the erruption of Mount Vesuvius, then rediscovered years later. It is a Roman town from 79 A.D. It was pretty amazing to see how all of this is so old but still up and not deteriarated!
This was the courthouse of the town. It still had some of the original columns and you could see the carvings they had done on them for detail. This was in the stairway to Jupiter. If you look close you can see the statue of the head of Jupiter, the god of all gods.
This was where the market was. They had it closed in to hold some of the old artifacts they had dug up around the city.
These are some of the artifacts. They had furniture, bowls, ceramics, and statues. It was pretty interesting to see that even the smallest of things still made it through the volcanoe and the amount of years since then.
They had what they called petrified bodies. They found bodies throught the city when they were digging up so they insereted this plaster in order to preserve them and still keep the form. This was the dog they had found. One of the houses we had seen had a beware of dog sign...wonder if this was theirs??
This one is sad. So amazing how they even got to preserve them in the position they were in when the volcanoe was errupting. This was a woman they believed to be pregnant. If you look at her stomach she has a baby pump.
Looking down one of the streets of the town. The wine bar! It was like the bar of the town. They would put the wine in jugs underneath each of the wholes.
The archway into a part of the city. And the view through it, with the city and the mountains in the background. Beautiful! Then we went into the bathroom. It was like the public bath for the town. There was a dressing room first. Where they had to get dressed and stick there belongings in a whole in the wall. This was the waiting room, they had it decorated so they would have something to look at while they were waiting.
This was the "tub". The pool which they took a bath. This was the cool bath in the last room. Only men were allowed to take the cold bath after the hot bath, because they believed they were the only ones who could handle it. Showed masculinity.
Looking the other way from the cold bath. The cobblestones in the middle of the street were so you can walk across the street. They did not have anywhere to put waste so when they needed to throw trash they would dump it in the street. So they had cobblestones so you could walk across the trash. This was a house for a rich Roman. It was 30,000 square feet! but it was 2 story so we only saw half.
This was in the back of the house. The bedroom. You can see the paintings of the cupids on the wall. So amazing that even the paintings were still there.
After Pompeii, we headed to Mount Vesuvius Volcanoe. We got our hiking sticks and headed up the volcanoe. It was a good hike and you def had to be careful! those rocks were slippery! Pretty Funny!
This was the easy part at the begining! wish i would have gotten the path more towards the top!
We made it! lost a few on the way but most of us made it! It was absolutely amazing. The view was gorgeous and it was really kool to look inside of a volcanoe!
This was the view of directly looking into the volcanoe.
This was a view of the side of the opening of the volcanoe.Looking in on the volcanoe just thinking about how crazy it is and how huge. And also that it could errupt at any moment!...haha
Then the view of the coast, the town, and the mountain and islands! Amazing! It was so much to take in!

They could not get me away from the rail! The view was beautiful!

This was what you see from the top! Definately worth every step it took to hike up! ........After we climbed back down then got on bus and headed home! This weekend was perfect! Had so much fun and saw and did so much! would def do it all over again!
